چکیده
The questions of why there are so few women in engineering and how to change cultures be more inclusive have garnered much social scientific research considerable funding. Despite numerous findings interventions, no studies our knowledge analyzed difference is constituted discursively, materially, affectively ways that deeply embedded occupational societal cultures. This study takes an affective gendered organizing approach analyze affect through emotions/talk, interactions, materialities. Using constructivist grounded theory, we explored interview data 69 engineers (45 24 men) find three themes. first describes women’s sensate experiences underlie their expressions (un)belongingness (in)visibility. second depicts men’s emotional labor voice inclusion while enacting exclusion. third pulls these feelings forward as the impetus for constitution feminist spaces/places operate sites collective resilience. Throughout display contradictory essential embodiment within individuals’ identities a sensemaking force continues constitute systems inequity. Taking enables researchers practitioners respond fully question difficult achieve develop sustainable interventions career success STEM.

Affective/Kansei engineering is used to analyze subjective responses to a streetscape plan for a historic townscape. The Chofu area in Shimonoseki was chosen for the research. The appearance of the streetscape is evaluated based on actual photographs using a traditional semantic differential method. Guidelines are often formulated to promote landscaping plans in historic towns; it is especially...
متن کاملCapturing emotion reactivity through physiology measurement as a foundation for affective engineering in engineering design science and engineering practices
This paper presents the theoretical and practical fundamentals of using physiology sensors to capture human emotion reactivity in a products or systems engineering context. We aim to underline the complexity of regulating (internal and external) effects on the human body and highly individual physiological (emotion) responses and provide a starting point for engineering researchers entering the ...

Change brings benefits but can cause harm and introduce costs. An engineer’s task is to guide change and to evaluate it. This evaluation can be wide ranging and consider energy use, material use and disposal, visual impact, the potential users and their foibles, reliability, cost, safety, impact on health as well as the technical aspects of construction, configuration and delivery. Additionally...
